Herb cheese and a furry update

Posted by: Marion   Filed under: cats, green thumb

Look at my herb cheese.. Isn’t it wonderful how fast cress grows? It’s edible in a few days.

Speaking of fast growing, Charlie and Emma are also growing fast. They are four months old now:

On the left Charlie, who is obviously bigger then Emma, on the right. But that does not stop Emma from attacking her big sister, to test her strength. And trust me, most of the times it’s Charlie who surrenders…

We used some of our tomatoes in the cheese pie I mentioned yesterday. This is the result and I wish you could taste it, because it was awesome.

Herb Cheese

Posted by: Marion   Filed under: green thumb   Tags:

When we went to the market last Friday, I found this big plastic cheese in some bushes. I took it with me because I might make a miniature project with it. Lately my miniature/dolls house bug starts itching again so I thought it might be a nice thing to make a cheese shop in or something simular.

Today I have a hell of a headache and most of the times I get the greatest ideas – if I may say so myself :) So I was watching the cheese, and the idea popped into my head: why not make it a herb cheese: cut holes in it, put earth inside and plant some seeds to grow some herbs.. Brilliant.

Well cutting with a knife did not work very well, so I got my drill and started drilling holes.

Dan_e finished it of by using the chisel and now we have a hole-in-one. 2 more to go..

To be continued…

Tomatoes in oil part 2 and some thread too

Posted by: Marion   Filed under: Fiber, cooking   Tags:

Last week I was checking upon our tomatoes and I discovered a huge oil puddle in my closet.. Rats! the oil came from the jar we were keeping our tomatoes in. I took the jar out, opened it very carefully and that was very smart. It almost exploded, but not as bad as it could have been.

It looked like this:

So after I cleaned all up, and closed the lid again, I put it back in the closet, this time in a huge glass bowl. So if it was to overflow again, at least it would not get on my shelves again.

Today Dan_e and I checked the tomatoes again. It looked fine and it tastes soo yummeh!

I scooped out a bit to fill a 0.25 litre jar to give away as a birthday present for a friend we are going to visit tonight. We are going to make a cheese quiche with it tomorrow. We’ll keep you posted.

I also bought some yarn for my friend, as she is a knitter too. We went to De Afstap and I only bought yarn for her. I have a huge stash and I was very brave to not add more yarn to it. After that we walked through de 9 straatjes (the nine streets) and in one of the many awesome shops I found me a thread can. And some cute sheep in a games shop:

In the lid is a small hole you pull your yarn through. Then you knit, knit, knit and your thread never gets knotted. I love it :) The little sheep is just cute.

The green thumb

Posted by: Marion   Filed under: green thumb   Tags: ,

Today Dan_e and me went to the market to buy some plants for my balcony at the back of my house. It’s facing north but that never bothered me or limited me in buying the plants I want. Somehow everything I put there will grow, if I give it enough TLC. Lately I’ve been neglecting the plants there and the result is this:

Okay.. I admit it does look green but most of these green plants are weeds.. not the plants I planted. So O got some herbs, a lot of lavender and some other blue and purple plants, some grass for the kittens and here we go, much better:

And from below it looks like this:

And just to “show of” here are the balconys form my upstairs neighbours…

Pretty boring huh?? lol I guess they are missing the green thumb. No idea why its called green anyway, my hands and nails were black after the whole afternoon putting my hands in the soil. I think I did pretty ok, for a city girl :)
